Korean food is a mystery to most. I even meet people who think it is similar to Japanese because of the geographical proximity. One thing that really makes Korean dishes quite distinctive is the use of red chilli, raw garlic and fermented soya bean pastes. Impeccably clean, Maroo Café is a tiny intimate space which seats about 15. The service by both the owner and what seems like the only waiter, Samuel, is courteous beyond belief. Everything appears quite authentic, down to the fermented soya bean paste and chilli spice mix which the chef grinds himself and matures for a year. For those unaccustomed to Korean food, Maroo has something known as Maroo Rice Specials. This consists of rice, a main course and a big bowl of soup, ideal for the single person. Do try the traditional Korean teas and the Cold Cinnamon and Ginger Tea, the Spring Onion Pancakes, Kim Chee Pork, and Seafood Soup laden with red chilli powder but not overly spicy. The Bulgogi here is more like a beef stew in a sauce with spring onions. The other famous Korean dish to try is the Bibimbab, which is rice tossed with vegetables, fried egg and a spicy green paste (gochujang). Treat this as a culinary journey and a lesson in exemplary service.

Marro Café is one of my favorite places at Pune. This café is neat, simple, tiny, comfortable and very elegant. I love visiting this place often. It is really very nice at looks and at the feel. Food is perfect. They serve perfect Korean food. They have Maroo Rice Specials, Spring Onion Pancakes, Kim Chee Pork and Seafood Soup laden with red chilli powder. These are all perfect and I love them to have. Also, fried egg and spicy green paste are amazingly prepared. I must say, they serve true Korean food. Service is unsurpassed. Waiters and owner both work together and are polite and courteous. Excellent service.
