It’s hard to figure out whether The Ship is a resto-bar or a pub. Over the last few years, it has metamorphosed from one to the other and gone from a lively, VFM restaurant to an almost sleazy pub. Wines, seventy variations of scotch, cocktails, shooters and mocktails fill up the bar menu. DJ Vivek spins soft rock and retro daily. Plenty of special nights too. Mondays are Happy with one drink free with one (alcoholic only). Tuesdays are Mojitos Rock Night, when you get Mojitos for just `99. Wednesdays are the Sailors Got Talent Night, which is a performance night. Thursdays are Ladies Night, when all the ladies get their drinks for free. Fridays are Live Band and Salsa Night while Saturdays are Retro ‘n’ Electro Night with DJ Abhishek belting out some foot-tapping music. Enjoy Happy Hours (noon to 3.30pm, 7pm to 8.30pm) with a 20 per cent discount on drinks. Some good bar eats are Prawns Wine Butter Garlic, Chicken Satay, Chicken Strips with Sweet Sour Sauce, Galouti Kebab and Chicken Shahi Kalmi Kebab.

Restaurant Review

Food: 4/5 | Service:4/5|Décor: 3.5/5

Decor
The ship has been around for a while but has recently had a make-over with new management. The décor looks by and large the same only a bit spruced up with a nice black and white checker board tile floor and a juke box in the corner. Gone are the silly white sails and so should the curtains. It looks more like a classic pub now with a central wooden bar, some high tables and easy seating.

Food
The bar menu at Ship is quite long with a fabulous new cocktail selection done especially for the restaurant by a UK company. I tried their lime margarita and the spicy one with habanero chilli- both outstanding and served correctly, shaken with cracked ice. I am sure the mojitos, Captains specials, martinis, long island teas and daiquiris are as stunning. They also have a range of absinthe - that dreaded French fennel flavoured liquour which, I must say is more bark than bite and an extensive selection of tequilas including Patron and Don Julio. If you get to the food, you should order the barbecue, melt in the mouth, ribs and the fantabulous nachos. You don’t need meat on the nachos at all although chicken and tenderloin versions are available. The tortilla chips are homemade with pico de gallo (a fresh salsa), jalapeno, sour cream and guacamole… all really scrumptious and authentic without dripping in cheese sauce. The wasabi prawns done tempura style and served with a mango salsa was also delicious. If you are into ‘picking’ try a mini burger or slider, poutine French fries served with gravy and cheese curd and their burgers. I must say their Captains beef burger with grilled onions, bacon, cheese, fried egg and onion rings was quite a whopper. Plenty in the Italian section for vegetarians. Children will love the oreo milkshake and their special children’s menu. It is not surprising that this place is full of expats most days. It must be like a home away from home with the pub like ambience and food to match. I must say there is a huge improvement in the bar and food menu as well as the very accommodating service.

Plus & Minus
Fabulous drinks and new bar menu. If anything, desserts need improvement.

Food: If you are a fan to American cuisine, this is the place to visit. Steaks and burgers are mouthwatering. They also have plenty of options in Tex-Mex. Beverage list is extensive and offer many not-so-common drinks. On Wednesdays ladies are served free drinks even in restaurants and not only in pub. Service: Service is not that good. Only couple of people are courteous. Few may just ignore you. If you ask for some extra sauce or condiment it won't be on the table till the time you are half way through with your plate. Ambience: Typical American pub ambience. Larger bar with many liquors in display to choose from. Music can be bit loud sometimes in restaurant. Value for Money: Somewhat. Menu is bit overpriced.

Tips: Accepts reservations,Has happy hours

The ship sucks!! And sucks massively.. I was here for the first time and the staff was not courteous.. They ignore when you call them.. Although the menu is limited but chicken satay is fab. The drinks are massively flat and your server will charge you extra in case you want to add more alchohol to your drink. I ordered for LIT and was totally dissappointed.. The service is completely off.. Overall i will never visit this pace again. This place is not for rock lovers. It's a major thumbs down with no value for money..
