Shisha, the jazz café at the ABC farms in Koregaon Park, captures the spirit of the original Irani café and has now become an iconic landmark on the city's social scene. Although it is essentially a meeting place that has become hip and trendy with hookahs and low Persian-style seating, it is also very much on the circuit of Pune's jazz lovers. It has now expanded to the premises downstairs too into what used to be the Swiss Cheese Garden, so there are over 60 tables! From Wednesday onwards you have to reserve, since the whole place is choc-a-block every evening. It is now also open for lunch and through the day. I am happy to say that the quality of the food is now catching up with the rest of the elements which make Shisha so special. Start with the Zereshk Polo, or Berry Pulau as the Bombayites would call it. The Mohi Subzi Polo, rice infused with green herbs and served with fresh fried fish, is traditional to the core. The Jujeh Kebab (grilled chicken) and the Chelo Kebab Koobideh (rather like a seekh kebab made with beef) were succulent and mouth-watering. They also have an Iranian Kebab Platter and a Mixed Grill Platter for hard-core meat eaters. Shisha has always been such a favourite… its laid-back, informal atmosphere is endearing and unpretentious, and seems to attract a wide variety of interesting folk.

Modest, serene and very relaxing Shisha Café is the call of the weekend evenings for me. Persian style seating and interior and Iranian style kebabs and other food items to eat is the set up for a complete evening. The Chelo Kebabs and the Kebab Platter is perfect for me with a hot cup of coffee. Shisha Café and its offerings surely keeps me warm for the rest of the week.

Shisha Cafe is doing a good thing for the food lovers in the capital, introducing few new dishes and flavors. Mohi Subji polo, jujeh kebab are two of such things and believe me you will be in love with these dishes once you taste them.
Chelo Kebab Koobideh is also a must try dish on the menu of Shisha Cafe.
