Recently opened is the mall version of the highly successful Malaka Spice. Malaka Street is not street food at all as the name suggests but just a smaller version of the mother restaurant in Koregaon Park. They have some cocktail tables and some normal seating in this intimate space which through the clever use of mirrors looks actually much larger than it is. Some of the recipes are innovations of South Eastern street food while others borrow from classics that work at the restaurant. The menu itself is a clever cut and paste montage of snippets, postcards, maps and magazine articles from all over Asia and is a joy to go through and read.
Food
Start with Murtabak, the Muslim Malay roti served in Malaysia as well as Singapore - very similar to our baida roti in Mumbai. Top hats are always a winner at Malaka Spice and a speciality of Melaka where crispy shells in the shape of an inverted top hat that are packed with chicken or vegetables. Also try the spiced chicken in betel leaves which has been one of my favorites from the original menu from the old days of Malaka Spice at lane 6. The soup was certainly spicy but lacked flavor and the papaya salad was also a little 'punchless'. The rendang - mutton and fish are excellent. The fish is actually marinated in a rendang spice paste and baked in banana leaves. The mutton lamb chops were also very good - full of flavor and very tender. Noodles, rice and roti are well prepared in Malaka Street - the Pad Thai, Char Quay Teo and Calcutta chicken fried rice are all dependable choices. Mall restaurants are getting better and better and Malaka Street is certainly a very good option at any time of the day in this mall for an Asian inspired meal or snack.
Plus and Minus
Wish they had more outlets outside malls. The only drawback is that these are not street food prices.
Must Try
Spiced lamb chops, Rendang fish, Top hats

If you don’t know it is there, you won’t even imagine such a nice restaurant inside a mall. Though the menu is not elaborate as Malaka Spice and Ambience is not as good as the same, this still is a way better stand alone restaurant in the area. Nice to spend time after shopping.
Ambience: Very casual. Dinning area almost equal to one of the Adidas outlets you would find in same mall, closely place 12-15 tables; some are normal and some are with high chairs. This is more like a fast food joint than a fine dine.
Food: Good options in Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese etc cuisines. Taste is which you remember for long but still worth the moment.
Drinks: Nothing new to offer. Same classic cocktails and wine list.
Service: courteous and prompt.
Price: 1200 for 2.
