Mumbai's Melting Pot restaurant drops anchor at Cunningham Road.

Decor
Step down to a sunlit atrium where there is a waiting area and a long bar, lunch buffets are set in the section at left. The decor is elegant with soft recessed lighting.

Food
The good news is that their unassuming chef is fresh from Mumbai and still has that 'touch'. The tablet menu is quite comprehensive and navigates across north Indian, coastal and pan-Asian cuisine. Dim Sum dumplings are velvet smooth and served with three sauces of which the one made with coriander, ginger, garlic and lime is so flavoursome that we had to ask for extra helpings. As you all may know, Bombay Duck is a fish also known as Bombil along the Konkan coast and many a Mumbaikar will muse upon it wistfully. Yes, it is available here and made the way it should be. Nice. The menu featured a Chicken Schezwan Pepper, which is not a pepper or a chilli, but a tongue- tingling spice, though many people don't understand the difference. Made with the real stuff, if you can get past the grittiness, this is a great version. The coarse ground Kori Sukka with Neer Dosa was exceptional and Chicken Hyderabadi was a nice take on Chicken 65. Not many restaurants serve Rawas (sometimes called indian salmon) in Bangalore, but this restaurant's version, marinated in herbs, lime, crushed pepper and grilled tandoori style was fresh and juicy. Another discovery was the excellent desserts -- Apple Pie with hot Custard and Blueberry Cheescake. Also popular is the lunch buffet from 12 pm to 3.30 pm, and the rate per person is 375, inclusive of all taxes from Monday to Sunday.

Plus and Minus
Fresh smelling or should we say non-smelly seafood, is always welcome in Bangalore and Melting Pot succeeds in satiating that desire. Great desserts were a pleasant surprise. The pan-Asian selection is not bad but lacks fresh Thai herbs.
