Khurchan, a quintessentially old Delhi mithai, is actually layers and layers of sweetened malai which is khurcho-ed out of large earthen pots. And is, undoubtedly, a piece of heaven on earth! Now, as far as Khurchan is concerned, Hazari Lal, a little roadside shop in Kinari Bazaar, is perhaps the best in the business. Also first-rate here are the Doodhi ki Burfi, Coconut ki Burfi, Rabdi, Parmal Mithai (stuffed with Khurchan), Malai Roll and Malai Laddoo. The best thing about the mithai here is that it is neither cloyingly sweet nor apparently heavy, even though it is sinfully seeping with calories! Hazari Lal is actually hazaron ka lal!
