Essentials for dining (knife, spoon, fork) especially when it comes to tasting the creation of Chef Morgan Rainforth - it is their logo but therein lies a tale. Morgan is the fork, Serge Lozano is the Spoon and Florence Tarbooriech is the knife and together they have created an institution in culinary art - La Plage. Situated right on the beach, this shack (La Plage means the beach), with colourful trimmings gives one a warm and welcoming feeling. The menu is French, but with a tweak, food here is more than just cooking - its Morgan's creative talent to the fore. An absolute must is the Filet de Kingfish en Gravalax Salade de Pommes de Terre Douces a la Moutarde. Well the French are normally very voluble but the name explains all. It is thinly sliced before served with a sweet potato salad and mustard. Voila! Tres bein! Simply terrific! Another preparation is the Moules Gratinees en Persillade, Sorbet et Tomate et Basilica. Shell licking good! For those who have something more familiar in mind, try the Terrine de Foie de Volaille, confiture d'oignon (chicken liver pate with onion jam) or the Emince de Calamari a la Carbonara (thin slces of squid in carbonara sauce). For mains, try the Crevettes Grilles a la Thailandaise, sauce guacamole, salade de papaya verte - shades of East-West bonding. But inspiration at its most creative is the Thali au Chocolat for dessert. Inspired by the Indian Thali, the platter comes with chocolate preparations, creatively depicted. If Morgan is the fork…guess he teases out the flavours from the ingredients, Serge the spoon...he ladles out hospitality like the gravy on the dish ably aided by Florence the knife, the support and backup to the team. All in all can one really enjoy a meal so creatively prepared without the knife, fork and spoon?

While roaming around in and around Goa I and my friends located a number of restaurants and one of them is La Plage, a French cuisine restaurant. Everything apart the most interesting thing in this restaurant is the menu with complicated long names of French dishes. With the help of the chef we were able to place our orders. I liked the confiture d’oignon and the dessert Thali au Chocolat is unique and very refreshing. La Plage is more an experience rather then dine out.

In La Plage, it is nearly impossible to remember the name of the dishes of French cuisine. For example, the most loved dish here is Filet de Kingfish en Gravalax Salade de Pommes de Terre Douces a la Moutarde. I also tasted it and it is delicious.
In totality the food is superb and the chef is very helpful in guiding through the menu. For me La Plage is a new experience.
