Critic's Review

Story: A happy family living in a hilly area is confronted with a sudden twist of fate and their decision to take it on results in a struggle that is both painful and engaging.

Mohanlal owes this film to Jeethu Joseph, completely. His portly frame, his drooping shoulders, his flitting glances find a glowing reincarnation in a character named George Kutty. He plays a father and a husband like a man. He struggles and suffers with his rugged endurance. This is a film that switches genres every second.

It opens up as a sweet-coated family drama, gives a fleeting sense of a social chronicle before evolving, almost magically into a game of truth and lies. Joseph picks the most unlikely setting and people to be hurled into this game.

Drishyam is a deeply layered duel between truth and lie. By placing an uneducated, harmless farmer and his family on the one end and cops at the other, Joseph sets the right tone for a riveting conflict. A family comes face to face with a crisis that could rip them apart. The crisis is sudden, unexpected and shattering. What ensues is not a meek submission to fate.

They choose to fight, to resist and to survive and the battle is brave, arresting and empathetic. George Kutty's brilliance is shaped from the nights he spent in his cable-TV office keenly watching films. His courage is emboldened by his circumstances. His manliness is empowered by the sheer necessity to guard his kids and his wife.

In this trail of human suffering, every lie they utter is prodded on, every hurdle they cross is cheered. It is as if Joseph lets the viewer share the travails. He slowly turns it into a conflict between parents, two different men and women waging a desperate struggle with each other for their kids. One does it to protect and the other to procure.

While playing a character rooted to earth, Lal grows in stature moment by moment. He takes the suffering of George Kutty upon himself with such resilience that his life depends on it. Sometimes he invokes the warmth of a father and the weariness of a bruised soul with nothing but an almost indiscernible movement of his lips.

It seems Joseph had saved his best for the script. It's a case of adept story-telling and playing to the gallery. Slightest doubts come from the characters themselves and he lets them answer as though each answer was his token of respect for the viewers.

Even the characters played by Meena and Asha Sarath live up to the demands. Asha pulls out a performance that pitches her strongly for character roles. Drishyam is an elegantly crafted piece of film which Lal and Joseph can proudly hold close to their hearts.

Undoubtedly one of the best movies I’ve ever watched in the overall Indian cinema industry. This movie opens up a new genre in the Indian cinema called Family thriller. Director Jeethu Joseph made the audience sit on the edge of the seat throughout the second half of the movie. Each actor in the movie played their part with perfection. This can be only achieved if the director is well confident and thorough about what he is making. This film has message for Parents and children. This also showcases how an ideal parent should and also portrays how children should be true to their parents. Overall my recommendation would be please watch this movie at least once.

Disgusting that director is not admitting that its a copy of movies like Suspect X and Before and after. Anyone can understand that a normal director cannot think on these terms. His earlier movie My Boss was a copy of the movie The Proposal acted by Sandra Bullock. Copying is not sinful but admit it.

Jeethu Joseph once again hits the bull's eye with his latest movie Drishyam, with none other than Superstar Mohanlal in the lead. Drishyam is all about a common man's struggle for his family's existence. Story:- Georgekutty (Mohanlal), an orphan by birth, is running a local cable network Rani Vision at Rajakkad, in Idukki district. He is happily living with his wife Rani (Meena) and their two children Anju and Anu. Georgekutty is an ardent movie enthusiast and with the help of movie situations, he tries to solve his problems in life. Everything goes fine in his life until a spoiled brat, Varun (Roshan) enters their life and spoils it completely. What follows is a thrilling, engaging and emotional screenplay. Performances:- Mohanlal as Georgekutty is too good in his character. Some expressions of this legend reminds us why he is still staying at the top of the Indian actor list. Meena as Rani makes a good comeback with her role. The child artists enacting the roles of Anju and Anu have done their roles exceptionally well. Another notable performance is by Kalabhavan Shajon in the role of Sahadevan, a police constable. The negative character of Sahadevan is sure to gain Shajon a lot more opportunities in the coming years. Other characters including Siddique (Prabhakar), Asha Sarath (Geetha), Varun (Roshan) Irshad (police inspector), Kunjan (Madhavan) have done complete justice to their roles. Technical Aspects:- Cinematography by Sujith Vasudev has come out as a visual treat to the audience. Though not in plenty, he has captured the enchanting frames of the hilly district with sheer perfection. Music by Vinu Thomas and Anil Johnson is good as both the songs in the movie have been perfectly placed and it blends with the mood of movie. Anil Johnson deserves a special mention for the wonderful BGM he has rendered. The main attractions in the movie, are its gripping script and master craft direction by Jeethu Joseph. Putting aside some cliched family sequences in the first half, Jeethu deserves cent percent credit for his direction, and a wonderful and engaging script. Verdict :- On the whole, Drishyam is a complete package. It thrills, its emotional, worth your money and time. Don't miss to watch this movie.

This is a real life story which teaches a live lesson to every parents of a scoundrel son and also to the parents of an innocent daughter. I really like the way Georgekutty and the innocent family handle the situation. It also exposes the real moral fiber of the so called JAN MAITHRI POLICE STATION of God’s own country. I pleased to give 5 ***** rating for this exceptional Movie

Thrilled big time. A perfect common man script with not a single scene of exaggeration. Although the movie moves in a good pace, there is a change in higher gear with the entry of Asha Sarath as the top cop. On performance, about the Lal- totally speechless. He do clearly understand what the audiance expect from a sensitive script like this. And gives the best out of him. The ever beautiful Meena does give a right dose of filmy and realistic home maker. The child artists too does fits perfectly into the family. This is that one film which nobody should miss out.
