After a long time, a major standalone Mexican restaurant has been set up in Mumbai. Open through the day and equipped with a well-stocked bar and well-priced menu, it serves some robust Tex-Mex flavours (some patchy Mexican dishes). Sancho’s is already buzzing and packed! Two large wooden doors swing open to an earthy decor, weathered furniture and a typical Tex-Mex ambience. In this sprawling diner, all the predictable clichés surround us - hand-painted tribal masks, sombreros, tables inlaid with fiesta ceramic and gaily patterned tableware. You get authentic tortilla chips with superb dips (Smoky Chipotle, Spicy Habanero, Guacamole and Sour Cream and Mango Salsa), Fiesta Nachos (a satisfying medley of chips, guacamole, sour cream, beans and veggies) and Taquitos (mini tacos in soft tortillas). Habanero Tequila Prawns are unerringly cooked and well spiced. Burritos and Chimichangas are the other options. A few patchy dishes are there too, such as the overspiced Habanero Chicken, chewy Mushroom Quesadilla or overdone Brazilian Tenderloin. Chocolate Mole is thick, gloopy and oversweet. They serve Chocolate Nachos too. Must end with the piping hot Churros, cinnamon- and sugar-dusted, crisp and tender at the same time. Luscious milky Tres Leche hits the sweet spot.

The Nachos, Margaritas, Burritos are amazing. A little costly but still good.
